Do new gen sites use ajax for everything ?

I knw php a lil, but hav no idea on ajax! I thought only google maps n bing maps uses it, but now when i c some contact form which loads without reloading the whole page and some sites which hav certain part loading without reloading the whole page.. is every site started using it ?
