How to collect my horse's lope a little more?

get him in a lope hold the reins ferm but don't yank back just firmly hold them back a little and keep your legs squeezed in and keep him going at a lope. If he over speeds firmly pull back some more. Keep a tight firm hold the whole time. this works for me and my horse we do reining and several other things.
