Horse is stubborn while riding..?

My horse is stubborn when i ride him. I rode him earlier today and he was doing fine at first, then he started being stuborn. He didnt want to leave this one spot. I kicked him as hard as i could and tugged the reins to turn him around mutiple times and he still didnt move. I soon just got down and lead him away. Is there a way to train him not to do this?
